Back in October 2015, Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design began a renovation project at the back nine of the Hunt Valley Golf Club in Phoenix, Maryland, with the overall goal of improving the strategy and shot value of the holes, while enhancing maintenance and overall aesthetic.
Bunkers were redesigned and selected trees removed to help open up some of the holes. "While planning the redesign of the bunkers, we determined to not only reduce their total area, but to seize the opportunity to significantly improve the surface and subsurface drainage around them as well," said Jason Straka. "Golfers may not readily see the drainage improvements, but they will notice improved conditioning and playability as a result of them."
