(CA) - After four years of designing, the El Segundo City Council approved a conceptual redesign of the city-owned course, The Lakes at El Segundo. Expanding the short game and putting green practice areas, re-configuring several holes and adding a new clubhouse, pro shop and a high-tech driving range built by Topgolf.
While final approval won't come until fall or winter of 2017, residents have mixed feelings about the proposed driving range. Topgolf, based in Dallas, is known for its game-like take on driving ranges, featuring micro-chipped golf balls and flashy targets that tally accuracy in real-time. The company's most recent build is a location at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, which includes four levels, a concert venue and two swimming pools.
Third-party financial consultants have determined the range would bring in nearly $210,000 in annual revenue.
